Watch this video to get the breakdown on vaping: Safe or Dangerous?

Breaking It Down

What Is It?

Also known as e-cigs, vapors, and hookah pens, vape pens are nicotine-delivery devices that sometimes look like cigarettes but other times are much bigger.

How Does It Work?

When the smoker puffs on the mouthpiece of the cartridge, the battery causes the tip of the vape pen to glow

The heat created by the battery turns the liquid nicotine into an aerosol

The aerosol is breathed in and out by the user, creating a cloud that looks like cigarette smoke

Is It Safe?

AEROSOL NOT WATER: Vape pens produce an aerosol that can contain nicotine and low-levels of particles and toxins known to cause cancer.

Dangerous: At least 18 vape pens have exploded since 2012 causing 8 injuries, including second and third-degree burns.

Unregulated: Vape pens are still partially unregulated by the government, so we don’t really know what’s in them and there’s no evidence that their emissions are safe to inhale.
